“No Name Woman” Feminist Analysis

The title The Woman Warrior gives us the idea that women are strong enough to be warriors. Reading the excerpt No Name Woman from the story The Woman Warrior tells us a lot about how Chinese women are looked at by society. Women are often looked at as objects by men and by social media making everyone think it is okay for women to be looked at as objects instead of human beings. They are often also looked at sex toys, for men to play around with and in the end just give them away to another man. The way society looks at women is unfair because no one looks at men in the same context. People tend to think that women are less and are weak. Women aren’t weak they are as strong as any other person in the world.

In the excerpt No Name Woman Maxine focuses on how her mother explained to her about starting her menstrual cycle with the example of her never born aunt. She talks about how her aunt killed herself and why she had done it and sets it as an example of what not to do now that she has started her period. Feminism is the advocacy of the women’s rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. In this story, it shows us how women aren’t equal to men according to society and economically. The fact that the girl’s grandmother doesn’t have a name shows us how women aren’t valued as men are. It tells us how women seem to be powerless because they can’t even be recognized by their own family members. They have to sell themselves for food or other resources because they are poor and also because they are girls. Being in a world where women are constantly looked at as objects and not as humans they are usually persuaded to trade sex for things they need. Because of poverty and desperation they are willing to give anything for resources they need. Knowing this men take advantage of the situation asking for sex in return.

Society makes women seem less than a man and also makes them look individually weak and powerless. Many think women aren’t capable of anything but truth be told any women can take the job of a man and work twice as better as he could. It doesn’t matter the gender, size, ethnicity, or age to get things done. In this world we live in women aren’t usually given the respect that they deserve because without women nobody you wouldn’t be here reading my story.

Psychological Theory Analysis in Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 1 and 2

In the movies of Twilight the unconscious mind of the characters are constantly taking over. We have vampires, humans, and wolves in the story who are at constant battle with one another and do things without thinking about it because it is in their nature. The vampires are in battle with their own kind because of ancient ancestors who will always be around. When the vampire is introduced to the human, in the beginning of the movie in class, they are later reunited when a car almost hits the human but is stopped by the vampire. The wolves in the story is also always driven by their unconscious mind to help and save their family.

In this movie a child is born that is abnormal. She is able to share her moments she had with you by putting her hand on your cheek. She was born half vampire and half human being made from the human and vampire that started in the beginning of the movie series. This reminds me of Freud’s opinion of the unconscious mind because he says it is able to store all memories that are traumatic. It is also a part of mind/soul that cannot be accessed directly because no one is able to control it. I see this appear many times throughout the series but most in the movies Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 and 2. I notice the vampires unconscious mind is constantly in control because they don’t really think about what they do. One of the characters is able to remember and look into the future and see if anything bad is coming their way.

Freud’s most radical insight is that human beings are motivated by unconscious desires, fears, needs, and conflicts. I see this in the movie when the vampires are fighting for the child’s life because they believe she will bring danger to the world and immortal world. They are motivated by the unconscious mind to fight for the child because she is part of their family. She was also proven to help and heal people instead of bring danger.

Upstate by Kalisha Buckhanon

Welcome to my blog.

The book that I am reading is called Upstate by Kalisha Buckhanon. The book is about the a 17 year-old boy, Antonio,  who is in jail for killing his father. The book consists of letters that he writes to his girlfriend, Natasha, while he in jail explaining to her the things he goes through inside jail. In the first chapter he asked her if she believed he killed his father and she doesn’t answer his question. She asks him to explain what happened the night of his father’s death, but he tells her that if he were to write down what happened someone in the jail could get a hold of the letter and use the information he wrote against him and get him more time in jail. Later when he goes to court for his trail, Natasha finds out what happened that night and sees that it was all an accident because he was trying to stop him from hitting his mother. In between the trail and her going to see him at court they write each other almost every week. They talk about the problems they have and how they want to fix them but they don’y have the power to do so. They talk about what there life will be once Antonio gets out of jail and how much he will have to change to make their life better. He realizes in there that he did it on purpose when he killed his father but it is the depression that is getting to him while he is thinking this. He is able to attend classes and get a job with the help of Mrs. Harris the counselor inside the jail. The first time he goes and visits her he turns out and gets angry because she is asking a lot of questions and throws the papers she had on her desk across the room. He wrote back to Natasha telling her how he acted out and she made him write an apology letter and ask her if he could see her again. Natasha made him do this because she explained he needed to get his education and have a job if he wanted to live with her after he got out of jail. Later in the book with the money that Antonio has earned he manages to get his mom to buy a ring for Natasha as an engagement ring. Natasha accepts to the marriage and will wait for Antonio to get out of jail to get married. While Antonio is in jail Natasha finds her potential and decides to change her ways and doe good in school. While they are seperated they bothrealize what they are capable of and what they can accomplish that they didn’t think they could have accomplished. This book teaches you about situations that can help you understand and earn about your skills and find yourself when you are put in a very stressful situation. This book makes me wonder about all the things I have heard that happen to people when they go to jail. Many  say they come out a new prson that has different mindset from what they used to think. This book teaches you how being in jail can impact not only yourself but also your loved ones.
